no file associations in new accout

Hi I am in trouble. My newly created user account has no file associatons.
Every file I click I get this popup message' Windows cannot open this file:
File: (the file name.lnk)
To open this file, Windows nedds to know what program you want to use to
open it. Windows can go online automatically, or you can manually select from
a list of programs that are in stalled on your computer.
What do you want to do?'
The it has two options - Use the Web service to find corrrect program or
Select a program from a list of installed programs. OK or Cancel
I'm not sure why this has happened I used to be able to create new user
accounts. Please someone help me.
