    First Time sign in problem

I just installed Vista after partitioning the hard drive... It started up
normally, and asked me to select a user name, password, and computer name. So
    far so good.

But when I tried to sign into Vista, I was shown the user name
"administrator" and a password prompt. I entered in my password, but it
    didn't work.

I then clicked on "switch user" and saw only "administrator" and "other
user". The name I created wasn't there. I clicked "other user" and typed in
my user name and password manually. I was given a "wrong user name and/or
password" message. I tried re-booting the computer, every combination I could
think of, etc. Is there a default password to "administrator" or something
like that? Otherwise, how do I sign on?

Are you in "Safe Mode" when this occurs?

No. I started up Windows normally. (One time I actually pressed F8 and

    Hello there,

I would suggest that you just go to the Administrator login and press enter.
It seems by default on the Vista Beta that the Administrator has no password.
once you are in that profile you can just create your own profile.

    Hope it helps,

Thanks. I'll try that. I don't know if it's the same thing, but I did click
the green arrow with nothing in the box. I didn't try pressing enter though.
    I'll try it.

Sorry for taking so long. I tried your suggestion. I clicked add user account
and created a new user. When I restarted though, the user name wasn't there.
    Any thoughts?

Re: First Time sign in problem

I'm having the same problem: I installed from the DVD - not custom - went
through the motions and then was presented with a nice big orange flower and
administrator login. I click Change User and then am given a choice of admin.
and Other User. Every little combination I put in for User/Pass under Other
User doesn't work . . sometimes it takes a second to think about it and then
spits it back. When I do anyting at the admin (orange flower) login, Vista
just tells me that the account is disabled.

I installed and re-installed last night and then started another reinstall
w/ drive format this morning before coming into work. I'll try again later
tonight, but I don't have much faith.

Any words of wisdom would help.

    Thanks!

I'm having the same problem: Install from Bootable DVD > to through motions >
presented with orange flower/admin login. Vista reports that the admin acount
is disabled. Next I "Change Users" and try again with the info I just entered
    during setup - No dice!

I installed twice last night and then I started another re-install + drive
format this morning before coming in to work. I'll give it another go tonight
    when I get home.

Any words of wisdom in the meantime would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!

Re: First Time sign in problem

    Chaimss,

It sounds like you do not have the system set to show the last login name.
That;is fine. If there is a blank box (graphic that represents the account)
at login then it is set to receive any user on the system, so just type in
    that name and log in.

If the user you created has administrator privileges (if not log back into
Administrator), then you can do this:

In control panel click on "administrative tools", now click on "local
security policy". Local Policies/Security Options in :interactive logon:" .
    Disable "Do not display last
    last user name"

Then when you log off, the system should give you a graphic for every user
    on the system, except Administrator.

REMEMBER:To get back to the Administrator account you have to "enable" this
    feature again.

    Hope that helps,

Re: First Time sign in problem

    iam bennu,

I think the problem Chaimss and I are having is the blank box is denying the
name and password we setup two minutes earlier. Plus, there seems like
there's no way of logging into the system at all, the administrator account
is reportedly disabled. I've never even seen the vista desktop, let alone
    start bar or control panel.

It's like we're stuck in the lobby, so to speak.
