| | user profile and user accounts i have been using my new laptop for quite some time with an administrator level user account... so it has all my settings, shortcuts, downloads etc. i've read that to protect my pc/system, i should be using a different user account with 'standard' permissions... however, i don't know how to copy the profile of my administrator level profile into this new account.. and i don't want to have have to start from scratch with this 'standard' new account. anyone know how i can copy the other profile into this new account name? -- thanks for taking the time to help, larry |

| | Re: user profile and user accounts Larry First, you want to create another user account with Administrator privileges. Make sure you create a strong password for this account. Log on with this account once to make sure it is working properly. You always want an Administrator account available in case you ever need it. This is the account you will use to elevate a component while you are using the standard user account. Once you are sure the new administrator account is working properly, You can then go into Control Panel/User Accounts and change your original administrator account to a Standard User account. -- Ronnie Vernon Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User "larry" <larry@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:A01C21BB-CACA-4F4C-BF52-C8EA50E180E3@xxxxxx Quote: >i have been using my new laptop for quite some time with an administrator > level user account... so it has all my settings, shortcuts, downloads etc. > i've read that to protect my pc/system, i should be using a different user > account with 'standard' permissions... however, i don't know how to copy > the > profile of my administrator level profile into this new account.. and i > don't > want to have have to start from scratch with this 'standard' new account. > anyone know how i can copy the other profile into this new account name? > -- > thanks for taking the time to help, > > larry |
