| Guest | Lost Administrator Rights After initially creating my account with Administrator rights, I switched my account to a standard user. Now it won't allow me to revert back to an Administrator account to make changes and install applications. It requires me to type in an Administrator password but there's no field to type the password into. Does anyone know how I can revert my account type back to Administrator? Help please. ~Jon |

When you startup in safe mode, try changing your account back to a administrator account. See this tutorial for details on Safe Mode. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88009-safe-mode.html Shawn |

| Guest | Re: Lost Administrator Rights Jon Not a good idea, as you have found. You must have at least one active administrator account, with a password to do anything that requires admin privileges. When you do not have any active admin accounts, you can boot to Safe Mode and the Built-In Administrator account should appear. This account is named Administrator. Reboot and start tapping the F8 key before windows starts to load. You will see a black screen with a menu. Use the Arrow keys to select Safe Mode and press the Enter Key. At the Login Screen, select the Administrator account to log in. By default this account does not have a password. Once you are in Windows, go to Control Panel/User Accounts. Create another administrator account or change the Standard account back to an Administrator account. Let us know if you need more help. -- Ronnie Vernon Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User "Jon P" <Jon P@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:44C0EFC9-A530-4A55-BB0B-DCAE6138639F@xxxxxx
