RE: can not delete folder in Vista

1. Type CMD into the start/search box, then right-click the CMD entry in the
Start menu and choose 'Run as administrator'. From the prompt type CD
%userprofile%\Desktop and press Enter, now type del name (where name is the
file to be removed, e.g. abc.def) and press Enter. This should remove the
file. If it does not, then keep the command prompt open and
2. Hit Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. On the Processes Tab, select the
explorer.exe process and end it to stop the desktop. Go back to the command
prompt window and retry the del command. Now go to the Application Tab of
Task Manager and pick 'new task'. Enter explorer.exe and click 'OK' to
restart the desktop.

RE: can not delete folder in Vista

To get the CMD prompt, I should have said "Click Start > All Programs >
Accessories and right-click Command Prompt, then ‘Run as Administrator’. "

Re: can not delete folder in Vista

The folder I am trying to delete is the Start Folder which isn't listed
in the userprofile\Desktop. This folder showed up on desktop after I
rearranged some items in Programs (Start --> Programs). Do you have a
way to remove this Start Folder from the Desktop?

Hello krgoodwin,
may not be what you really want, but have you considered " sending " it to documents folder?
Right click on folder > send to > documents
What do you think ?

Re: can not delete folder in Vista

Thanks for the reply, appreciate the effort especially when I am lost.
After spending quite some time trying to delete the Start Menu folder
that showed up on the desktop after I rearranged some Programs in my
User folder, restarting the computer failed to bring the folder back to
the desktop. I will miss XP. Thanks again, Ken Goodwin
