How to single click

I just got a new computer with Bluetooth wireless keyboard & mouse. I am
running Vista Home Premium. How come I can't single click to start programs
or games? If I go to folder options, only the double click selection is in
dark print. It shows the option for single click but it is in light grey and
won't let me click on it.

Thank you for your help.

Re: How to single click

Try this. Go to Control Panel, change it to Classic View, then right-click
on Folder Options, and choose Run as Administrator.

Re: How to single click

dean-dean, Thank you but it didn't work. I did as you said. When I click
on Run as Administrator, it brings up the folders option window. Under the
general tab there are 3 subjects, tasks, browse folders and click items as
follows. I can't do anything in the tasks section or the click items as
follows section. The only thing I can change is to browse folders in a
separate window or the same window. Is this weird or what?

Re: How to single click

Yes, it is weird. On the General tab of Folder Options, what happens you
click on the Restore Defaults button?

Re: How to single click

The only thing that happens if I click on Restore Defaults is the Browse
Folders section changes from "open each folder in its own window" to "open
each folder in the same window". I still do not have the option to do
anything in the Tasks section or the Click Items As Follows section. Can you
help? Please don't suggest the live on-line help Dell provides. That is
very time consuming and not very effective.

Re: How to single click

Do you have another user account that you can log on to, to see if another
account exhibits the same problem in Folder Options? If not, try creating a
new account, if only temporarily (you can always delete it later). On the
Start Menu, click on your User picture, at the top of the menu on the right
side. When the "User Accounts" window pops up, click on "Manage another
account". Then click on "Create a new account". Make the new account an
Administrator account.

Now Log off. Log on to the New account, and see if Folder Options has
choices that are grayed out.
