Upgraded CPU, Now I Need to Re-Register?

About a month ago, I upgraded my CPU from an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800 to a 6000.
When Vista would boot, it would always just say that the AMD model was
unknown. So yesterday, I updated my BIO's and got Vista to recognize my
processor. However, I am now getting a notification that I need to activate
my Vista since I upgraded my hardware.

When I click it, and proceed to try and re-register, it says my key is
already in use. After sifting through many different pages on Microsofts
site, it brought me to here. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it. I
have two days left to re-register my Vista before I get locked out. This
whole process is very aggravating.

Waylo88

It is showing the key 'in use' because it is being used by you.

You simply need to start the activation process again and, when it fails,
click the "show me other ways to activate".

Use the telephone option, a toll free number will be displayed for your
location. The telephone activation will start with an automated activation,
this will also fail. 'Stay on the line' until a live representative answers
and they will manually activate the system for you.

Re: Upgraded CPU, Now I Need to Re-Register?

Just a quick update.

I got my account re-registered. I only had to argue with the guy on the
phone for 20 minutes since he kept trying to say that installing a new
processor was pretty much a new PC, therefore I would have to buy Vista all
over again. After reiterating my point that I cant upgrade my PC whenever I
want, and that I already own Vista, he eventually gave me the numbers to
re-register my account.
