| Guest | save as error The problem I have is when I open a notepad file and make changes to it, I am trying to save the file in the same location. All I do is hit file then the save button and I get an error saying cannot save file. I also says make sure path and file name are correct. I never canged the path or file name. Please help, has there been any problem like this before? |

| Guest | Re: save as error Hello shayray, Where is the file that you are trying to edit located? If it is in a protected location, such as the Windows folder or Program Files folder, then it may be that your user account does not have permission to save there. If you run Notepad as Administrator (right-click on Notepad.exe, select Run as Administrator), are you then able to save the changes? If not, then you might have to take ownership of the file before you can edit it. -- Jane, not plain 64 bit enabled :-)Batteries not included. | Guest | Re: save as error Hi, Shayray. Usually, when we hear this complaint, it's because the user is trying to save the file to a "forbidden" location - such as C:\Program Files. The Program Files folder never was intended to be used to store data, but pre-Vista versions of Windows did not enforce this idea. Vista does. You'll need to give yourself special permission to save files there. If that is not the situation in your case, please tell us more about WHERE you are trying to save the file. RC -- R. C. | Guest | Re: save as error Hi, Shayray. We can't help you without more details. There is no "My Documents" in Vista, except as a "Junction" pointing to the equivalent folder, perhaps C:\Users\shayray\Documents. But I'm only guessing where you might have saved it. Only YOU can see your computer and find out for sure. RC -- R. C. | Guest | Re: save as error Hi, Shayray. Well, I'm a newbie when it comes to permissions and such, since I've always been just one guy with one computer and never had to worry about different user accounts until Vista came along. But I wonder if you have given yourself permission to WRITE to that folder. I know that has tripped me up several times. Like when WM (and WLM) told me there were no messages in my OE store folder - until I explicitly too ownership of the folder where those messages were - and then they were visible and imported easily. As I said, I'm a newbie about permissions, but if it were my problem, I would browse to that folder (or its parent or grandparent) in Windows Explorer, then right-click on it and click Properties, then the Security tab. And I hope someone who does know about these things will jump in with pointers as to what to do next. Let us know what you finally learn about this - for the benefit of others, especially ME. ;^} RC -- R. C.
