Click the Start Button, then your Username. Open the Links folder. Place a shortcut to a folder there, and whenever your programs use the new Open or Save As dialogs, that shortcut will show up as a link in the Favourite Links portion to the left.

Is that what you where looking for?

Re: How to Add Icon Files

Are you talking about the Places Bar where there are selected locations in
the "look In" section on the left side of the dialog box? Which program and
version of Vista are you using?

Hi VisualVideo,

I see what you mean now, I believe. These are the items under "Favorite Links" in the "Folders" section in the Navigation Pane. This tutorial will show you how to do it.

Re: How to Add Icon Files

Visualvideo

You are describing the old style Places Bar which has been deprecated and
replaced by the Links section in Vista. This was easily done in XP using the
TweakUI utility, but this utility is no longer available in Vista.

There are still a lot of programs that display the Places Bar and you can
still configure and change these icons in Vista. How you do this depends on
which version of Vista you are using.

If you let us know which version of Vista you are using we can help.

Re: How to Add Icon Files

Visualvideo

I do understand that you are talking about the Places Bar. Those icons you
see there are not standard shortcuts, they are placed there by entries in
the registry.

Let me know which edition of Vista you have installed and I will give you
the procedure for adding to or replacing those icons.

Re: How to Add Icon Files

Hi, Ronnie ... hope you don't mind me butting in here ... I would like to
add the Public folder to the left pane in the Open files dialog ... I use
the Public folders a lot to move things from my standard user to my Admin
user.

I am running Ultimate on my desktop and Home Premium on my notebook. Thanks.
