| | Create your own template then have it there to pick from in "customize this folder" in explorer? Does anyone know if this is possible.. they have the defaults.. like All Items.. Music etc.. is there a way to make your own and have it appear in the customize folder options in Vista? Or.. is there a way to make Vista not turn a folder into a pictures folder, if there happens to be a jpg in the folder by default.. yeah i know you can do the customize folder.. but by default.. it would be nice to turn these off and on, if not have custom templates that would actually stick. Cheers |

Cheers The problem you are having is with the "Automatic Folder Type Discovery" feature. Method Two in this tutorial will show you how to turn this off and reset the folder view settings so Vista will remember your settings. The download is the easiest option. | Vista Home Premium 32 bit | Re: Create your own template then have it there to pick from in "customize this folde I found this because I am actually interested in creating a custom folder template type -- namely, I find that I want my views for Pictures folders to be substantially different from my Videos folders. This is because Microsoft on the one hand allows "Tags" and "Ratings" only on pictures, and not on videos, yet lumps both together in a single folder template type. Stooopid. So I'd rather have two separate templates. I could do a workaround and customize one of the music folder templates (I can't imagine why there are two of these, and only one for both pix & vids!?!), but that's a hack I'd rather avoid. Thanks, if you have any ideas, I'd be grateful. PS -- thanks to your awesome folder template tutorial slash registry fix, my #1 Vista pet peeve is gone. Now if I can slow down or inhibit Index searches every time I open an explorer window, I'd be peachy. ![]() --Will |

For your next one though, I believe you may be having the thumbnails loadup when you are opening the explorer window instead. The Index will usually only run slowly in the background during low or no usage idle times when the computer is on. As a test, you can turn thumbnails off to see if it stops afterwards. If not, then you can just turn the thumbnails back on. This tutorial will show you how to. Thumbnails in Windows Explorer Hope this helps, Shawn |
