HELP....Cannot Open .jpgs With Windows Vista

I really need some help here...I just got my wife a new laptop w/ Vista
installed and it is NIGHTMARE! She does a lot of graphic work and we can't
open any jpg's that she has saved online. In fact the ONLY jpg's that Vista
will open are the ones that are pre-installed in Windows. It does not matter
what program I try to open the jpgs with; IE, Windows Picture Viewer....
whatever, it will not open them up. It says that it's a corrupt file. It
does not show the thumbnails either. Has anyone else had this problem??? If
so, can anyone help me???

I have been working with computers since the old DOS days and this totally
blows my mind, it's like I have never sat in front of a computer before. No
wonder more people are going w/ Mac...

What do you mean "saved online"? Where exactly are the images you are
trying to open? If you get any error messages, please include the exact
text.

What do you mean "saved online"?

I right click on an image, in internet explorer, and select "save picture as"

Where exactly are the images you are

The images are in her "my pictures" folder. I double, and triple checked,
the image properties. They are being saved as valid .jpg files, not as links
or anything like that.

The error message that Windows Photo Gallery gives me is "Photo Gallery can't
open this picture or video. The file appears to be damaged or corrupted."
Of corse, when I try to open any jpgs in "Internet Explorer", there is just a
box with an "x"

...pretty frustrating stuff, this Vista...........

*The weird thing is, we can open bitmaps, and only bitmaps....explain that....

Thanks,
Tim

Re: HELP....Cannot Open .jpgs With Windows Vista

Do not try to save files to the folders that start with "My"... in Vista,
these are not folders, but are junction points.
Save files to the folders under C:\Users\youraccount
like "Documents", "Pictures", "Music", etc.

Re: HELP....Cannot Open .jpgs With Windows Vista

If you are really saving pictures in "My Pictures" you have a problem. In
vista the folder in which pictures are expected to be is named "Pictures"
and is located at
c:\Users\your name\Pictures
