indexing WordPerfect files

Vista search is ignoring the content of WordPerfect files. I've made sure
that the .wpd extension is marked 'Index Properties and File Contents' under
Advanced Indexing Options and I've rebuilt the index for the selected
locations (thanks to other contributors for pointing out these possible
solutions). There is no problem searching for content in .pdf, .doc or .html
files in the same folders, but as the majority of my files are WordPerfect
this is a serious shortcoming of the Vista search facility (unless I've done
something daft or neglected the obvious).

If anyone knows of a solution or a work-around I would be most grateful.
Cheers.

Re: indexing WordPerfect files

I don't know if Vista comes with an ifilter for Wordperfect...
If you installed a current version of WP, then you should have it.
If not, you can download it here...

Re: indexing WordPerfect files

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply, Dave, but installing the WP ifilter
didn't have any effect, even after rebuilding the index again.

Warona

The dates on those files (1999/2001) makes me think that they may have been
created long before Vista was even announced.

It might be better if you visited the Corel website and checked for any
updates there first. I think they only release of Wordperfect that is
supported for Vista is the X3 version.

Re: indexing WordPerfect files

I was having this exact same problem of the Vista Indexer not indexing my Wordperfect files. I finally found and installed a new Wordperfect ifilter from Corel (64 bit for my version of Vista, they also have a 32 bit version posted).

Here is the download link at Corel.com: Patches and Updates - Patches and Updates

I then rebuilt my Vista index and, so far, it appears that it indexed all of my Wordperfect files properly. I'll have to work with my files a bit more to verify, but so far, so good.

Long live WordPerfect
