Folder type templates

Is it possible to modify the folder type templates themselves?

I tend to organize files by grouping them by 'type'... so, instead of being
forced to go thru a few extra steps to add 'group by type' in 'customizing
this folder', I'd like to modify the TEMPLATES so that the templates default
to grouping files by type...

Thanks,

Hi M Byrnes,

Yes, it is possible. These two tutorials will show you how to change the folder type templates in Vista.

Windows Explorer - Folder Type Templates

Column - Customize

However, you will need to reset the folder view setting to allow Vista to remember the changes you made to them properly. You can see how to do this in Method Two of this tutorial. The download is the easiest way.

Re: Folder type templates

Windows Explorer: Tools...Folder Options... View Tab "Apply to Folders" will
make all folders of the same type as the currently applied template like the
current one, i.e. it modifies the template for you.

In your case, just set it up as you want it and choose "Apply" and it should
propagate to all folders with that template *opened subsequently"

I have not found or heard of any other way to modify the templates - let
alone create one's own (which would be nice)
