Breadcrumb Trail goes cold

I am still coming to terms with the loss of the windows explorer UP button for navigation, but I do see how the breadcrumb trail helps navigate up several levels at a time and has other information if you click on the little arrows between the terms.
One thing I don’t understand is why there is no path in the breadcrumb trail when you click on a file or object on the desktop (see attached screenshot).
Is there any reason for this?

Re: Breadcrumb Trail goes cold

Hi Clpratt,

There is sort of a breadcrumb. When you click on the arrow to the left of your desktop item, you will see a list of the root directories. This location is not considered the same as the one from "C:\Users\(your username)\Desktop, even though they open the same file location. It's called a Junction Point.

You can see more about the function of the Windows Explorer address bar here. See the "Go To" section for the Up navigation.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: Breadcrumb Trail goes cold

Hi Shawn,
thanks for your explanation and your excellent guide to the "Windows Explorer Address Bar". It's good to know the UP function is still available (ALT + up arrow).

Re: Breadcrumb Trail goes cold

Your welcome Chris,

It's not the old UP button, but it will do I suppose.
