Vista - Need help restoring Default Application Prop.

Well, as usual, when you're in a hurry you mess up and I screwed up. I was opening a file and wanted to change the program/association to open it. I'm not sure exactly what I clicked on, but it was the WRONG thing. Now all my applications that were linked to application under "Target Type" in properties, are associated w/ exe. Needless to say when I click on the desktop shortcuts, programs in the Start Menu and even System Restore, the dos screen flashes and that's it. No startup programs start, etc. I've gone to "default Programs in Control Panel", but I don't see what to change. When I right click on a shortcut, there is no "open with", just open. Yep, the dos screen just flashes, no programs open.

If anyone can tell this gal how to reset the defaults, you might get a kiss.......

Try installing the "lnk" and "exe" fixes by clicking on them from the grid at this site. Just save them to your desktop and follow the rest if the usage instructions at the site. It should fix your problem.

If it does not help and you have a Vista Express or Retail installation DVD, then you can do a Repair install. This will allow you to repair your Vista installation without losing your files, settings, and programs.
