Vista - Folder Question

I'm new to Vista's Explorer and have been going nuts trying to figure some of this mess out.

When I click on a folder, then look down in the Details Pane at the bottom it shows the number of files in the folder but NOT the accumulative file size total.

I also noticed the same thing when I had the Recycle Bin Folder open.

I like knowing the exact size of the folder, I don't really care how many files are in it.

Can anybody answer my question, please ..

Have I got a setting wrong somewhere??

Simply hover your mouse over the folder.

You can also right click the folder and click Properties to see the size of it.

windows seems to calulate it on the fly, so if the folder is big it takes a
while.
for a folder whose properties say 15.8 gb, the tooltip in explorer after a
couple seconds said 'bigger than 2.45 gb'.

the way vista's explorer looks is a real PITA. nor do i expect much from
sp1, as mimicking apple -- in a world not consistant with apple and used to
details since c:\>dir and nc's times -- has its risks.

anyway, after some trouble with vista showing any folder as it thought
better, i could arrange atleast it to reset any folder as an 'unknown
folder' and usually show it in the details view, without harassing about
date taken, pixel size, duration and that stuff.

btw, i've got folders with thousands of pictures, and it's uselessly time
consuming. i do not want infos on them, i just need to program them, and
sometimes to enjoy them :P

note: even after applying the changes suggested by that pages, i stil cant
uninstall many programs. panel > programs just doesnt show the 'uninstall'
options for many programs, like vs2005 and most things that came with the
pc.
hope sp1 will fix this...

"Bob"thank you. the page dates from Saturday, July 30, 2005. a bit before vista
was out, i fear. i wasnt speaking of a vs problem. *this* vista system just
doesnt allow me to uninstall vs2005, nor all the roxios, the java machine,
and many others.

as for uninstalling 2005, on my xp work machine i installed it, then vs
2008, then uninstalled 2005 --and 2008 stopped working despite 3 more
uninstall/reinstalls.

a friend pointed to a page with the suggest to completely erase a vs 2008
key from the registry, then reinstall it anew. it worked.

as i installed both from msdn original dvd's, final versions, not betas (i
got thru the beta in 2005, and the mess was even worse) and both take long
minutes writing and unwriting in the registry, the least i can tell is that
i wouldnt expect such behaviors.
