Is there a way to relocate the users folder to another drive. I want it to
map to a drive other then C: XP could do this rather easily.

I can't find a way to move the whole User folder. But most of the sub-
folders (eg Documents, Favorites, Desktop, Download, Pictures, Video,
Music, etc) can individually be relocated. Just go to Properties of
each and choose the Location tab.

Re: moving user folder to another drive

thx for your help. this appears to be a step back from XP. it is a pain to
have to go in a move each one individually.

Hi lab03,

In addition, this will show you how to do it.

Re: moving user folder to another drive

I've moved individual folders under Users\<myself> as recommended and it's terrible. After accidently moving C:\Users\<user>\Search to D:\Users\Search, then undoing the error, then correctly moving it to d:\Users\<user>\Search I had to re-install Visual studio 2008 because it stopped working.

There are web references to moving the entire Users folder at installation time. Aparently if you do this, upgrades are not possible. Ref: Dario Airoldi TechNotes : Steps to Create an Unattended Setup for Windows Vista and Microsoft Corporation

Microsoft needs to build the equivalent of unix's symbolic links into the filesystem itself and cease these silly workarounds with hidden gotchas.
