Search function in Explorer

When I try to use the Search function in Explorer (search C:\), it almost consistently fails to find the file, yet when I do a manual search, the file is there in all it's glory. I've checked spellings, used wildcards, etc., but still Explorer fails to find the files. Any ideas? This is frustrating....

Re: Search function in Explorer

have you adjusted your indexing options to insure the folder is included in the index.

Re: Search function in Explorer

I'm not on my home system right now, but will look into it. Please don't tell me that I HAVE to have Fast Indexing on in order to use the Search feature....I seem to remember I turned it off because it was thrashing my hard drive.

Re: Search function in Explorer

once the indexing is done it behaves quite nicely.

unless you told it to search the index and not the whole system that was a possibility.

Re: Search function in Explorer

I prefer (and recommend) the latter suggestion of searching the entire system.

Re: Search function in Explorer

I tell the indexer to do its job on both hard drive and all partitions.
