Confused by Vista Backup structure

On my Hard Drive (c I have quite a few folders that are labeled with the
name of a particular project, like say Project ABC. In those folders, I have
all kinds of files about the project .... Word docs, Excel docs, PDF's,
Pictures, Drawings, even Videos in some cases.

Back in the pre-Vista days, the back-up software I used (3rd party I'm sure)
let me select entire folders or individual files for back-up. And the
back-up on the CD showed the same Folder names and Files within that folder,
etc.

With Vista Backup I just get to click radio buttons for either Documents,
Pictures, Music, etc., which makes me wonder what the structure of the Backup
will look like on the CD when it is finished.

Will all those various types of files I had under Project ABC folder on my
Hard Drive now be scattered all over the place in "File Type" folders on the
CD? If so, that would suck! Is there a way in Vista to do the Backup as
described in above paragraph, or do I need another 3rd party software to do
that?

TIA for any help/guidance,
Rick

Re: Confused by Vista Backup structure

When you go to Restore your files and folders, you will be able to choose
the specific ones that you need. You can see the process a little better if
you make a trial backup and then trial restore.

By the way -- I gave up on using CD's or DVD's as my backup destination --
too many discs, takes too long, and error prone. I bought an external USB
hard drive for about $60 and my automatic backups work smoothly and on
schedule.

Re: Confused by Vista Backup structure

Good advice. I'll just do a quick "test drive" with this MS Vista Backup
software and see how it arranges/structures the backup files. I assume you
are saying that I really can put things back into the same folders they were
originally. And yes, I've already decided to get an external/portable HD.
CD's/DVD's can be a pain.

Thanks again! Rick
