| | Start menu problems- (moved this query from General forum Admittedly I may have done something to cause this but I can not get it right: Vista Home premium, 32 bit. New User, new PC. Had all data and music files on external HDD's. Moved data (documents, pictures) over last week, and moved Music files over to C drive today. On Taskbar, at Start button, click on button, On right side of Start menu there are: under my picture, choices for "Me (user)", Documents, Pictures, Music, Games, then a divide and then, Search, Recent Items, Computer and so on ... If I click on Documents I go to the folder with files of documents. Same with Pictures. The files from both Documents and Pictures came from an external HDD. However, when I click onto MUSIC, nothing happens. These files also came from the same HDD, and I moved them over. Since I only moved the files over today, in the 18 days I have had the computer, I never knew of this problem. Yet, when I go to Computer, >C drive> users> "me"> music, the folder shows with proper files and all that. If I right-click on Pictures, I see a drop down box with various options, including full properties. Same for Documents. Same for Games. HOWEVER: If I right click on MUSIC in Start and the all I see are three options: Copy; Rename; Properties === with properties being completely empty and zero bytes and all attributes unchecked. How can I properly link MUSIC in right side of Start to the Music folder? If I go to Control Panel > Taskbar and Startmenu> Start Menu > Start Menu Customize> There is NO option for the MUSIC folder thought there is an option for Documents, Games and Pictures. Probably a simple fix but I am too complicated to figure this out. Thanks in advance, Robert |

| | Re: Start menu problems- (moved this query from General forum What happens when you type: shell:my music in the Start Search box on the Start Menu? Another check: Open a command prompt window and execute the command: reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders" /v "my music" and post back the results. -- Good Luck, Keith Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] "Robert J. | | Re: Start menu problems- (moved this query from General forum Link still works for me, but the basics are: Launch the Registry editor by typing 'regedit<Enter>' in the Start Search box. Navigate to: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders] In the right-hand pane, edit the data for the value named 'My Music' to reflect the path to your music folder. Log off & log back on. -- Good Luck, Keith Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] "davehodges" <davehodges.358lz0@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net> wrote in message news:davehodges.358lz0@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net... | | Re: Start menu problems- (moved this query from General forum Keith, that didn't fix it. i've set shell folder and user shell folder to the standard and restarted and it's not fixed it :s do you know of anything else i can try? i'm feeling resigned to either recreating user profile - which seems like a lot of hassle for a non working shortcut, or... well, living with it, lol. dave "Keith Miller (MVP)" wrote: Quote: > Link still works for me, but the basics are: > > Launch the Registry editor by typing 'regedit<Enter>' in the Start Search > box. > > Navigate to: > > [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User > Shell Folders] > > In the right-hand pane, edit the data for the value named 'My Music' to > reflect the path to your music folder. > > Log off & log back on. > > > -- > Good Luck, > > Keith > Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] > > > > "davehodges" <davehodges.358lz0@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net> wrote in message > news:davehodges.358lz0@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net...
