Vista - Explorer stopped working

I just bought a computer with Vsta 32. After a while I began to get an error
message the Explorer has stopped working and will restart whenever I wanted
to search files. After a lot of trial and error and restores it is clear that
windows messenger is causing it. I installed a web cam theat needed
messenger. I can leave the webcam installed but messenger had to go. How do I
use the webcam for live calls if I cannot use messenger? Is this a system
setup problem that will occur with all messaging software? Any helpful
solutions?
