| | How do I unlock Documents folders and subfolders? I am running Vista Home Premium edition. Even though all of my user accounts have administrator authority, I am not able to access Documents folders and Documents subfolders, using Explorer. I get an "access denied" error message. How can I unlock those folders so that I can access files within them directly from Explorer? David |

| | Re: How do I unlock Documents folders and subfolders? Documents and Settings are not real folders. They are junction points in Vista for backward compatibility of pre-Vista applications. ------- *Report back, please* "Comcast Newsgroups" <daviddiamond.removeifnotspam@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:XbydnbBxAtfVpWDanZ2dnUVZ_qOknZ2d@xxxxxx Quote: >I am running Vista Home Premium edition. > > Even though all of my user accounts have administrator authority, I am not > able to access Documents folders and Documents subfolders, using Explorer. > I get an "access denied" error message. > > How can I unlock those folders so that I can access files within them > directly from Explorer? > > David > > |

How can I unlock those folders so that I can access files within them directly from Explorer? David If you mean the "My Documents" folder, then you cannot access it. It really is not a file at all. Instead, it is a junction point to the "C:\Users\(user name)\Documents" folder. It is used for backwards compatibility for older programs written for older Windows OS's that had the "My Documents" folder instead of the user folders in Vista. Hope this helps, Shawn |

| | Re: How do I unlock Documents folders and subfolders? Thanks, Bob, Then how can I locate a file's or sub-directory's real location (for files or folders listed under "Documents", "Pictures", etc,)? What are the junction points such as "Application Data" used for, and how are they used? - David "Bob" <bob@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:KrGdnXDy3P2pGGDanZ2dnUVZ_qiinZ2d@xxxxxx Quote: > > Documents and Settings are not real folders.
