make index faster

is it plausible to make indexing faster (In dutch it's called indexeren, so I
think in english it is indexing).

I want to know this because when I search for a file I find a file which has
been deleted for 3 weeks ago. And indexing is running all the time (it is in
the startup folder)

(further: is it plausible to see how far indexing is (for example: indexing
status is now 83% or something like that))
