| Vista Ultimate x64 | Drive not indexing Hello all -- thanks for taking the time to read this. When installing Vista Ultimate 64, I decided to try to move the location of my "documents" folder to a second physical drive. Having once tried to do this the "hard" way with registry hacks which worked fine for about six months then went blamo, I tried this one the "easy" way by choosing the location of my documents folder in the shell properties. So, all is fine and almost dandy. Nearly every program recognizes the DOCUMENTS folder in the new location. BUT, there is one big problem: Indexing absolutely refuses to index the drive. One thing might have something to do with it -- was not paying attention when I assigned the drive letter to the partition and assigned it B: It has been so long since I had a floppy I forgot that was once reserved for removable media. The system definately recognizes it as a hard drive, but I thought I would mention it just in case. Anyway, so now I have DOCUMENTS(B and DOCUMENTS under USER I have:-- added B: to the index list -- verified that all folders, subfolders, and files are checked for indexing in the list -- deleted my index file and re-created it -- moved the physical location of the index file and re-created it Indexing service shows B as indexed, but it ain't your father's index. Email and files in the DOCUMENTS folder index fine, but nothing indexes from DOCUMENTS(B . This sucks because it is where all my files are. It can take an hour to find one thing with the box checked, and the contents of DOC/XLS files are not searched. This is a big headache for me. I hate to reinstall the whole damm system just because indexing is screwed up, but I really need the functionality. Thanks in advance for any advice, suggestions, or information. |
