Recreating Documents Folder

I seem to have accidentally erased my Documents folder. I have my documents
stored on another machine, and had to reconfigure my second machine. In the
process of redirecting my Documents folder to the new location, I deleted it
somehow. Now, when I go to install software and some updates, it can't find
the Documents folder. I've tried to simply create a new folder, but it
doesn't allow me the option to change the contects location.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Start Orb>Search box>type: shellersonal

A new Documents folder will be created, with the hidden system desktop.ini
file inside it (which enables the special icon). The default location for
the folder is C:\Users\(Username)\Documents. This works for Favorites and
other system User folders such as Music.

Re: Recreating Documents Folder

Unfortunately, for some reason this did not work on my machine. When I type
in "shellersonal" nothing happens; it can't find anything. When I try it
on another machine, I see what's supposed to happen.

Am I going to have to reinstall Vista?

Thanks,
bmatthews

Sorry, but I can't answer that question. You've told us nothing about your
computer, how you lost your Documents folder, the recent history machine,
etc. So I can't guess what issues the computer has and whether you will
need to reinstall Vista.

This may help you get focused answers:

How is this possible? At some point you had to have a warning like "Are you
sure you want to move this folder to the Recycle Bin?" Please explain what
steps you took to delete it. Was it by right clicking the Documents folder
and selecting Delete or what?

You say your documents, is this a backup copy or the original you lost?

Well we now know you deleted it, so it's natural the software can't find it.

You can't change a location on something that dosn't exists, right?, but
reading this line sounds like it does, but won't let you change the
location. This is very confussing so please explain.

Re: Recreating Documents Folder

Also I need you to look in the Registry for the following Key.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders]

"Personal"="C:\\Users\\YourName\\Documents"

Make sure you have the string value "Personal"
The YourName above will be the name you gave to your system, so the above is
just an example. Post the exact path that you see in your Registry.
