I'm having some problems with IE locking up (apparently only when using
Yahoo's and/or Google's streaming stock quotes). Closing IE via Task Mgr fixes the problem until I go back to Yahoo/Google quotes. I opened a CMD window (as Administrator), ran System File Checker (SFC /SCANNOW), and got the following message: "Verification 100% complete.Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log" When I try to open C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log, a nastygram pops up - "Access Denied". Surprisingly, this is the first time I've ever ran SFC /SCANNOW and haven't been prompted to load the O/S disk. But then, maybe it's the first time in Vista. Any ideas of how to find out what's going on? Toyman |

The "How to Read the CBS.LOG" section a little bit down in this tutorial will show you how to be able to read it. System Files - SFC Command Hope this helps you, Shawn |

Hi Brink,
Read the article, read the log file, then followed the directions to replace the corrupt file (tcpmon.ini). All went well, but did another SFC /SCANNOW, only to get the same error. Apparently the tcpmon.ini file I used to replace the corrupt one was also corrupt. Am I safe in assuming I need to do a Vista Repair from the Console - or is that going to try to use the same file? Running the Repair install will replace it with a new one from the Vista installatioin DVD. It should fix the problem for you. Be sure to backup anything you do not want to lose to be safe; just in case something goes wrong. Shawn |
