| | How do I change the Icon for MP3 files and not wav files? In XP I used to have windows media player open the majority of my audio files. (wav, mp3, wma, .etc) But I had a differant windows explorer icon so it was easier to differentiate between them by sight instead of just by extention. How do I go about that in vista? As far as I can tell I can change which program opens a particular file but I do not see where I can change the default Icon. (I have Vista Ultimate and two accounts one a normal user that wish to operate from with UAC active and one an admin to allow me to elevate my credentials) any ideas? Thanks in advance |

| | RE: How do I change the Icon for MP3 files and not wav files? I don't think there is a way to do this through the user interface, as the icon is owned by the installing application. If you're dead set on doing it and overriding the defaults, you could change the resource directly in the registry. Take a look at: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMP11.AssocFile.MP3\DefaultIcon HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMP11.AssocFile.WAV\DefaultIcon Keep in mind that this is an unsupported action, and you'll want to make a backup of the registry keys to restore in case you break something accidentally.
