Moving User Data In Vista - Help Please.

The standard proceedure to move a users data default file to a new drive such as: "c:\Users\test\documents" to "d:\Users\test\documents" is simple and works great. This involves selecting the users file, right mouse click to get properties, select the "Location Tab", insert a new target etc.

However, what happens if the files was accidentially altered and there is no longer a "Locations Tab" availible?

If there is no locations tab, how can I transfer a users file to a new drive so that Vista will recognize the move and use the new address as the default location? The key to this question is that there is NO "Location Tab" to select so I can not chose a new location for Vista to recognize the change.

I have seen this exact problem described by others on the web, but I have not seen a single answer yet. Anyone please. Thank you.

I've been looking into this same issue lately. Answers are hard to come
by, but here's what I know;

Files have no "location" tab. Certain *FOLDERS* will have a location
tab. Specifically, folders created by the system to be used as
receptacles for user data. I'm talking about Documents, Downloads,
Music, Pictures, Videos, and a very few others. Other folders that may
be listed under a given user name, e.g. "AppData", etc., are not
intended to be moved by the user, hence no location tab. My experience
is that user-created folders will not have the locations tab, because
with certain exceptions, windows cares not where you put them as long as
you don't put them in a system folder.

You said that the files were accidentally altered. I can't speak to that.

If you have some random user-created files that were not stored in a
movable user data folder, all you can do is copy and paste, and if they
were user-created data files why would windows care where you put them?
A lot of 3rd party software likes to keep track of where you keep your
data, such as Money or Quicken, but normally windows lets you put your
stuff wherever you want.

Take note; I'm no expert on this. Just tryin' to help.

I followed microsoft support about turning off "user account control", but still I can't get the location tab back, this is really agonizing.
