| vista home premium 32bit | Problem with using search box in Vista?? Hi Guys, really annoyed that sometimes when I click on "computer" then type in a name of one of my files in the top right hand search box my system crashes! The screen goes grey and a warning comes up saying something like "internet explorer/windows has stopped working" then something like "windows will close the programme" (typical, wont do it now I want it to do it) but its really annoying and I thought it could be something to do with the index but I have re-indexed the index many times and do chkdsk very often as well as defragging very often. It happens a lot when say for example I want to attach a file below and click on "manage attachments" and my Hard Drive(C) appears with all its files -say I want to add a screenshot that I have labelled "vista tweaks" so I go to type in "Vista" in that top right hand search box and it crashes. I find if I do it slowly one letter at a time it seems better such as - v........i.........s.........t.........a doing it slowly like this is better but I should not really have to do this. Any assistance is welcome. Thanks- Anthony |

| | Re: Problem with using search box in Vista?? Hi Anthony, I've got the same problem, started within the last week or so. Every time I search in vista, explorer crashes. It's infuriating as I can't do any searching for files now. I'm wondering if a Windows update has upset it. I'm still investigating but haven't found the cause yet. Post back here please if you do find the cause. "tonytoff" wrote: Quote: > > any advice with this one guys. > > > -- > tonytoff > |

| vista home premium 32bit | Re: Problem with using search box in Vista?? Hi Carina, Yeah thanks for leting me know! I will speak to the experts later today about it! If I can pin-point in then I will let you know. Doesnt help when I run this - Trend Micro HouseCall - Free Online Virus and Spyware Scan - Trend Micro UK which is brilliant by the way! - and it finds 2 worms that my expensive Norton 360 subcription cannot find! Im not saying this is the cause but as you know cant help the situation and makes troubleshooting more difficult. If youve never ran it before I would seriously recommend it! Its an online scanner and doesnt need installing - you just run it online. But remember the full scan can take hours so plan ahead, its worth it though, then at least this way we can dismiss a virus(s) from our suspicions! I will ask about on my usual forums, dont know why I havent asked yet on them. I will keep you informed but it may be a few days! My long awaited migration from the UKs worst ISP to the UKs best ISP takes place today! Hope we get it sorted, I like the update theory but somethings saying No in my mind. Mainly because it has been present on my system at different periods in time, namely not long after a full recovery and at other times! Although our problems are probably related! Thanks. -Anthony. |

| vista home premium 32bit | Re: Problem with using search box in Vista?? Hi Carina, I no longer have the problem as I have since recovered my system altogether so never really got to the bottom of it, sorry. I recovered my system for seperate reasons though. I did ask someone on MS messenger about it and he said he would have to see my error log or something, or is called the event viewer, after it had happened. see -I wouldnt know how to interpret any results there really, sorry! And dont forget that to mention this error on another forum would bring laughs and "I told you so" to all the silly old stubborn XP idiots who claim Vista is a mistake and its full of bugs and is unstable. Which its not! There is a reason why its crashing and no doubt can be fixed but I just dont know it! I will find out one day. Good luck with it Carina. |
