file names and folder names have been changed into some values automatically

Hi There,
Can anyone please help me. one of My Major folder in my External hard(western digital 1TB) drive is not accessible at all.. their file names and folder names have been changed into some values, and folders in it have turned into 0 kb. but the root folder shows the accurate size of all the folders even the one which is corrupted.. So is there any possibility to recover that folder. which has all my major works in it?

Error: file name, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect!

Thanks in Advance..
Harish...

1. What happens if you attach the drive to a different computer?
2. What antivirus do you have installed?
3. If this is a My Book, what do Western Digital tech support say?

yeah i have tried connecting to a different laptop but its still shows the same..
and i use avg 7.5 free edition. and i haven't talked to western digital tech support yet.
i think they wont care about the data other than, if its a hardware problem!!

Hi Harish, did you manage to solve this? Any solution?

I'm also facing the same problem right now with my external hard drive and it affected most of my important folders.

Can anyone please help me.

Thanks
Jim
