cannot delete old DOS file

I have an old DOS file on my computer called Mona.exe which is only 41KB.
It was basically a little joke program which made the Mona Lisa lose her
top. Anyway, I thought I had deleted it long ago but I recently noticed
that it had been transferred to my new Vista system along with several other
files from my old computer. But when I try to delete Mona.exe Vista tells
me that it can't because the file is open in another program. It even says
this right after I restart. I checked the task manager but Mona.exe is not
there, and there is no reference to it in the registry. Mona.exe has been
scanned many times and is not anything dangerous, but I can't get rid of it.

Does anybody know what is going on? How can I find out which program is
supposedly using Mona.exe? Or how can I get Vista to let me delete it?

Thanks for any help.

Re: cannot delete old DOS file

Hi
Try opening a DOS session (start, type cmd, right click on file select,
run as administrator, point to appropriate folder,
and delete offending article.

Hope this helps

Re: cannot delete old DOS file

I tried your suggestion, but it didn't work. I even tried deleting it from
within the DOS session, but I got the same "the file is in use" message.

FYI, I don't know if this is relevant, but Mona.exe will not run in DOS
under Vista.

Re: cannot delete old DOS file

Well I finally got rid of Mona.exe. It was stored in a folder on my desktop
along with about a dozen other files. To unclutter my desktop I moved the
folder elsewhere. Then it occurred to me that Vista had allowed me to move
the folder containing Mona.exe (which it normally wouldn't do for a folder
containing a file that is in use) so I figured if I can't delete the file
itself maybe I could delete the folder containing it. I moved the other
contents of the folder elsewhere and then simply deleted the folder with
Mona.exe still in it without any problems. :-)
