Flash Drive issues

I bought a 2 gb Minnie Mouse Flash Drive.

When I plug it in to the usb port two drives are shown as mounted.

A 1 Gb drive is shown as "CD Drive (GMinnie" and the second 1 Gb is
shown as a normal "Removable Disk (F" and operates as I would expect.

The Minnie volume has two files, one an autorun.inf and the other is
Minnie.exe, a 1 mb flash file that displays a screen full of Minnie
mouse spreading hearts around. When the drive in inserted the Minnie
flash file runs and is always distracting.

1.) How can I delete the CD configuration from the drive and return the
space to the thumb drive? I would reformat the whole device is possible.

Thanks

Have you tried to "Manage" the disks? Right click on "My Computer.
Select "Manage". Click on "Disk Management. Maybe they made two
partitions. If so, you could delete the partitions and create a single one.

Thanks for the tip but the cd drive isn't a manageable one. And when I
opened the disk management snapin, the cd drive kept in a 3 second loop
of mounting and then dismounting.

Re: Flash Drive issues

George,

I had the same problem with Cruzer memory stick. It has two partitions: one
for your documents and the other for install software. Everytime I plugged
it into my USB, 2 devices would show up in Computer: the document partition
and the install software partition. You can't reformat that stick to make it
one partition and one device. After some fooling around I was able to stop
the install software partition from appearing as a device on my Computer.
Now, I have just one memory device appear on Computer when I plug-in the
memory stick. I also labeled it drive (L so I know its in the usb port on
the left side of my laptop.

Here's the sad news. I don't remember what I did to make the install
software partition stop from appearing as another device. But the good news
is that it definetly can be done. Maybe, try right clicking on that unwanted
memory stick partition and see what options you have to stop making it
appear. Sorry, but I just can't remember. I did it a few months ago.

Good luck...

Re: Flash Drive issues

Here is the answer I received fron Buffalo, the manufacturer of the device.

There is not a way to remove the CD-Rom drive partition. CD Partition
is hard
coded into the device.

Thank you,
