| | Search No Longer Works I used to be able to find files in My Documents and its subfolders by typing part of the name into the search bar at the top of Windows Explorer. Now when I try to search, it returns no results. I type in part of the name of a file that I can see is in My Documents. What am I doing wrong? I'm using Vista Home Premium. -- C and A Bredt |

| | Re: Search No Longer Works Hi, Go here first for some basic info: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932989/en-us Two considerations: 1) try rebuilding the index using Indexing Options 2) if this trouble began after downloading Windows Search 4.0 update, then consider uninstalling it. -- oscar ![]() "Right click is a good friend..." | | Re: Search No Longer Works Hi Oscar, If a new Search program got installed, that may explain why it used to work. I don't see Windows Search 4.0 in my list of Microsoft Updates, nor in Remove Programs. Can it be hiding somewhere else? | | Re: Search No Longer Works Hi, CB. WS4.0 is well-hidden in the updates lists. Well, hidden in plain sight, I guess. There are so many others that it might be hard to spot. :>( In my fully up-to-date-as-of-this-morning Vista Ultimate x64, in my list of Installed Updates in Windows Update it is the 25th item from the top, dated 7/23/08m and listed as: Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista x64-based Systems (KB940157) In Programs and Features, it doesn't appear at all until I click "View installed updates". Then it is alphabetized as simply "Windows Search 4.0". But Indexing Options doesn't identify it as WS4 - or as anything at all. :>( RC -- R. C.
