Re: need help adding host file

Hello,

Are you trying to find the file in notepad? If so, make sure you have
selected All Files in the dropdown box on the right. Also, you will need to
run notepad with adminstrator rights by right-clicking it and clicking run
as administrator.

If all else fails, this should work:

- click start
- type: cmd
- Right-click cmd.exe when it appears and click run as administrator
- Type the following exactly, and press enter:

notepad %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

- JB

Re: need help adding host file

You are probably working with the defalut "idiot proof" setting to hide
system files from the average idiot (ie average user).

In explorer (Vista):
Tools / Options / View (tab)

in the "Advanced Settings" scroll window, look for an option to "Show hidden
files and folders", turn it ON!

click on the "Apply" button then OK

You should now be able to see the ETC folder and HOSTS file.

PS while you are there, turn off the next option in the list, "Hide
extensions for known file types". It could save you problems with hackers
when you download files that use that trick to hide executable files.
