Problems with Vista SP1

I installed SP1 last week and the following problems started happening:

1. Most programs seem to be working ok on my laptop, until I close the lid.
When I reopen, Skype can't reconnect, and Windows Mail doesn't work
properly.
2. Microsoft Office files leave ghost copies on the desktop even if Office
itself has been shut down.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

RE: Problems with Vista SP1

Had a similar issue with an X61 Lenovo recently (the connection issues).
Finally fixed it by restoring the system to factory state, getting all the
updates from Lenovo, then installing SP1. Works like a charm now.

It seems to me that SP1 installs are a bit like XP SP2 in that some drivers
that work with non-SP1 installations won't work with SP1. So I'm
recommending the XP SP2 "protocol" now - BEFORE installing SP1, scan for
malware and update your hardware drivers from the manufacturer's website.

Please clarify the term "manufacturer's website".

Are you referring the computer OEM or chip OEM?

Reason I'm asking is my computer OEM is rather lax in releasing updated
drivers, whilst chip OEM release updates several times per year.
