| | Folder permissions and missing files When I updated from windows xp my "my music" folder seemed to be the only one that had security permissions preventing me from accessing the folder..I have permission now but all my music is gone, but my disc space is still the same as if I had all the music still. What do I do? |

| | Re: Folder permissions and missing files Someone else had this problem and we couldn't figure out what had happened either ... - Turn on show hidden files and turn off hide protected operating system files by clicking the options located in the windows displayed by clicking Organize -> Folder and Search Options -> View tab from any explorer window. - Look for a folder named Windows.old or any other weird-looking folders that are "ghosted out" for your old music folder It has to be in there somewhere ... if you find it, let us know where it was. -- - JB Windows Vista Support Faq http://www.jimmah.com/vista/ |

| | Re: Folder permissions and missing files Hi, I hope that might be the solution to my problem too. I searched for all the ..pst files (by using *.pst) in the Live Search and it came up with 4 pst files. These I wanted to cut and paste to another location. I was messing with the Sort and Stack filter features of the search results window (very handy!) and then they dissapeared from the list. I couldn't find the files anymore. I redid the search (open close window, etc), with and without the *, also on the filename itself but nothing came up anymore. I did turn indexing on in the meantime. The data is on a 230 gb harddisk so there's no way I can find it without search. Any ideas? | | Re: Folder permissions and missing files This might be caused by the indexer not having indexed that location, if you had just turned indexing on. You could try changing your indexing settings in the control panel to make sure that location and that file entention is being indexed. -- - JB Windows Vista Support Faq http://www.jimmah.com/vista/ |
