finding target file

In the XP operating system when I wanted to find the storage locatioon of a
file I could right click on the file-click properties and show the target
location. In visa it seems that when I try the same thing the Path to the
target is not visible. How do I find the target path?

If you are able to find it and click on it, where is the need to find
the target path?

Or do you mean "click on the shortcut"?

Because if it's the latter, nothing has changed.

Shows up here, on the General Tab of Properties....

If you are building a .bat file it's kind of handy to have the target
path to the file you want to work with. However I've found that this
target path MAY be deceptive. Geography in Vista seems kind of
changeable. Or something. (I got new laptop about 2 weeks ago with
Vista, my first encounter with the beast).

Re: finding target file

Mort was right-, I did mean sshortcut.e.g. I have a shortcut on my desktop
for Excel. I
want to find the .exe file for excel. RIght clicking on the shortcut and
looking at either Properties/general (which tells me where the SHORTCUT "
IS located or Properties /shortcut gives me the line "Target" but just shos
the name iof the file and not its location

That's very odd. On my system, the Target gives the compete path.

A workaround is to search for the file. Since Vista's search can be
frustrating, Google "Agent Ransack". Download it, install it, and run
it - searching for the file name.

You should get the path in the results.

MS Office shortcuts are not pointing to files, they contain Application GUID
for Windows Installer.
