| Visa 64 bit | transferring data I have a Dell XPS M1530 which hasn't been a great computer. Now the screen is completely whited out and while the computer SEEMS to still function internally, you can't see anything. I have a new Dell Studio computer and I want to transfer some files from the old computer (specifically iTunes) to the new. I have transfer cables and have tried numerous times to do this, but I keep getting a message that both computers aren't on the same network. Can anyone offer any suggestions for how I can take data off of an old computer whose screen is not functioning and transfer it to a new computer? |

| | Re: transferring data Do you have an external screen you can plug in? Was this Laptop network connected prior to screen failure? Other than that you would need to remove the hd, & connect it to your new pc (probably via a usb hd case) "lynnelandis" <guest@xxxxxx-email.com> wrote in message news:e3c8da4dfe6bf23cf7ff4d2597f35821@xxxxxx-gateway.com... | Visa 64 bit | Re: transferring data Yes it was connected to a network, or so I thought. I used a usb to usb cable that had software with it, and followed the instructions, and the problem seemed to be that my new computer didn't recognize that my old computer was connected to a network, and in fact, I couldn't tell if it was or not because the screen doesn't work. So, I could remove my old hard drive and connect it to a "thing" that has a usb port? Then would I connect the usb port to my new computer? What i had envisioned would happen is that I would be able to "see" my files on my old computer on my new computer's screen. |

| | Re: transferring data If your PC was networked, and you believe it is booting correctly, try connecting it to the network and see if it is visible from another PC. Or You take the hd out, put it in an external hd usb enclosure, then access the data files from the PC its 'slaved to' You may have to take ownership of folders, see win help "lynnelandis" <guest@xxxxxx-email.com> wrote in message news:c71a771f224e0947a48e58729fda22ac@xxxxxx-gateway.com...
