| Vista Home Basic | Locating specific file in Temporary Internet Files I've read over a few old threads to try to find an answer to my problem but nothing seems to work. I am trying to locate a JPEG in my Temporary Internet Files in Vista Home Basic but I'm failing miserably!! When accessing my TIF it only seems to show a limited amount of files and none of them are image files. In fact, I can't seem to locate any of the image files in any Temp folder. I have used the obvious root extenstions [eg: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\] and made sure that my folders are not hidden, but still I can't find a single image file that may have been saved to my hard drive. Using the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temporary Internet Files\ leads me to the "Access Is Denied" error, and I have selected the 'Show Hidden Files And Folders' button and unticked the 'Hide Protected OS Files'. Also the log-in I use is classified as Administrator. I know the date and time the image I am trying to locate was originally accessed using IE and a part of it's file name, but searching for it hasn't proved successful either. Any help or direction from here would be hugely appreciated. Last edited by Nothing; 02-10-2009 at 12:04 AM.. |

| | Re: Locating specific file in TIF Hi, Nothing. TIF files are NOT "normal" files and cannot be handled in the normal ways! As their name says, they are TEMPORARY Internet Files and are not intended to be permanent - or even semi-permanent storehouses. In fact, I always check the box under Security in Tools | Internet Options | Advanced to "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed". Even if that box is not checked, IE deletes files whenever it needs more space to store new files, so there is no guarantee that any file, even a very recent one, will still be in the TIF. To save a .jpg or other file, you should use IE's File | Save as... option while you have the web page with the picture on your screen. (That's "generic" advice; some web pages may have other options.) IF that .jpg is still in your TIF, your best hope to see and save it would probably be to use the tools built into IE itself. Click Tools | Internet Options. The next step varies a little depending on which version of IE and Windows you are running. In IE8/Win7, the middle of the page says "Browsing history"; other versions say something else, but they all have a button that says "Settings"; click this. The next page is where you manage your TIF. You can change its size and location and do other things. There are a couple of buttons to "View objects" and "View files". See if you can locate your missing .jpg here If so, you MAY be able to click on it and then use File | Save as..." Or you may not. This is where I run out of ideas because I haven't really explored much past this point. Good luck! RC -- R. C. | Vista Home Basic | Re: Locating specific file in TIF Hey, thanks for your responce. I understand that TIF files are not ordinarily there to be "accessed", though can be done so, and in this case, there is a file I need to locate and once I find it, accessing it won't be a problem. Simply copying the file and pasting into any "Documents" folder will allow me to open it, in this case anyway as the file in question is a JPEG. Only problem remains I still cannot locate any JPEG files in my TIF. I have gone the standard IE > Internet Options > (Browsing History) Settings > View Files route and it shows a number of different types of files, but no image files. My only assumption is that my image files are being temporarily saved in an area or folder I cannot access. Either that or IE just isn't saving those types of files, which is odd, but a possibility. Thanks again for the responce though. Hi, Nothing. TIF files are NOT "normal" files and cannot be handled in the normal ways! | | Re: Locating specific file in TIF This may not be of help to you, but I just had a look at my Internet Options| General| Settings| View files and there are lots of JPEG Image files amongst the TIF files. Also lots of GIF and PNG images as well. "Nothing" <guest@xxxxxx-email.com> wrote in message news:2f0177e0386fce6f9b0f084ca691ce3f@xxxxxx-gateway.com... Quote: > > Hey, thanks for your responce.
