cant detele nonexisting torrent file icon from start menu

I need help guys!I have an empty torrent file that shows up on my start menu when I search it. I try to delete it and Vista doesn't let me. I get this message "This is no longer located in c:\users\my cpu name\appdata\roaming\utorrent. Verify the item's location and try again." The problem is that the actual file doesn't exist on my computer any more but it still shows up when I search for it from the start menu. Vista doesn't let me delete or rename it.

I've tried...
-taking ownership of the file
-using a unlocker program I downloaded
-using a file shedder program I downloaded

and none of these worked for me. Does anyone have any other ideas or solutions to this problem. Its driving me nuts!

Assuming you have rebooted, try running Chkdsk /f. If my assumption is wrong
and you haven't rebooted yet, try that first.

Hello Sicmetalhead,

Double check in the torrent program to make sure that you have also stopped and removed the torrent file from there. Hopefully you will be able to delete it afterwards.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi, sicmetalhead.

Ho recently did you delete that file?

Vista's search utility works only in the background and tries to stay out of
our way. So, if we keep our computer busy, it may be several hours - or
even days - before it gets enough free CPU/HD time to update the index.
Until then, it thinks that deleted files are still there and shows them when
we search for that filename. But when we click on the filename, it can't be
found, of course.

Go have a cup of coffee or lunch - or even let the computer run overnight -
and then try again to see if that "phantom" file has vanished.
