Vista - Deleting and moving files UAC

Hello,

I powered up an external hard drive and went to clear some space, however
every time I delete or move a file I get an UAC dialog. I thought it may be
an ownership issue since I created everything on the drive in XP, but
changing ownership did not help. Finally I copy a directory to the desktop
and the UAC dialogs stopped. Also when I emptied the recycle bin I got
another UAC dialog asking to confirm the delete.

Is there anyway to take total control of these files without copying them to
the desktop? I would like to keep UAC on and I am trying to do as much as
possible in Vista.

It's not a ownership issue, if it was you would have been flat-out denied.
It's just UAC asking to elevate privilages. The files are interfacing with
Vista, hence management of thus said files are under vista. I personally
haven't fiddled with UAC so I don't know how customizable it is, but I'd try
tinkering with it. Otherwise, you would have to disable it.

Sorry for the second post, I was lazy the last time. So, go to local security
settings\local policies\Security Options (as long as you aren't on a domain).
Scroll down to the bottom, there will be eight security options for uac....
the second option from the top of the eight 'UAC: Behavior for Admin
Approval' double-click and select no prompt.

Rather than disabling UAC rather just run an explorer/cmd window when needed
as an administrator. Assuming you can't get the permissions sorted out.

Thanks for the responses. There are some interesting options in the policy
console I will have to experiment and see which does what. Runing Explorer
as admin also works.

Yes generally rather run the odd program/task as administrator if the UAC
prompting doesn't work or is too much hassle rather than switching off UAC
and running as an administrator full time.

If you do switch off UAC and run as administrator full time then you're
losing out on the extra security.
