folder level layout

How do i specify a layout for a certain folder? When I tried to enable the
preview pane for a specific folder, it applies to all folders instead, which
I do not want. How do I enable the preview pane for only one folder?

Check the setting 'Remember each folders view settings' to see if that is
unchecked.

Tools / Folder Options / View / <about half way down>. That might be what
you're looking for but I can set each folder to its own view and they stick
so it can be done.

Re: folder level layout

That was the first thing I did before posting but it does not work.
'Remember each folders view settings' is checked. I go to a folder
Layout/Remove Navigation Pane, then go to another folder and sure enough the
navigation pane is gone for all. I then bring it back for one and all now
have it back.

I don't know why it doesn't stay removed for you. I just removed the Nav
Panel from the root and it was removed from all directories. I then added it
back and removed it from within a directory and it was removed from all
again.

Re: folder level layout

Well, the behavior you described IS problem. When I remove the Nav Panel
from a folder, I don't want all the other folders to not have it. I want the
layout to be remembered PER FOLDER not at the global level. Win XP worked
like this. You could specify a specific folder not to have a Nav Panel. How
can I do the same in Vista?

It looks like Vista will remember each folder's 'View' in terms of icons
being displayed but the 'Layout' via the 'Organise' button is global.

The only thing I can suggest is that you remove the Nav Panel and then use
the breadcrumb along the top to naviagte. It isn't what you want but I don't
think there is a better method.

Anyone else?
