Deleting undeletable files

I recently downloaded a file for a program (design, Revit). The file did not
download fully, yet the icon of the file is still on my desktop. When I try
to delete it or send it to the Recycle Bin, the delete window comes up, but
nothing happens. Is there a different way to delete this? I cannot even
move it to a different folder to get it off the desktop.

Thanks!

RE: Deleting undeletable files

Well, that gave me control over that specific folder, but I'm still unable to
delete the particular file....

RE: Deleting undeletable files

I suppose you could try the 'old XP trick' of deleting it/them in safe mode.

There's this http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320081 yikes!

There are also free utilities around for this purpose like

Try this: right-click on a blank area of the desktop and click Refresh. Sometimes an
icon remains on the desktop after the file itself has been deleted.

Re: Deleting undeletable files

So none of these options worked. I decided to just uninstall the program
since I'm not going to be using it anymore. Oddly enough... that worked.
Why I didn't just try that in the first place... too stubborn? lol

Thank you all for your help! I greatly appreciate it!
