| | Need Some Guidance New machine with Vista Home Premium 250GB HD, 2GB RAM After the new machine was first turned on, C:\ was about 12GB used. After removing several of the usual crappy programs one gets on a new computer, I installed acrobat reader 8.0 and PowerPoint Viewer 2007 - that's it. C:\ is now 21GB used. The page file is 2.4MB and hibernation is off. What is going on? Is that normal? At the moment I'm suffering a bit of what looks to be "Vista shock". Thinking of installing 20 or so programs on top of that and doing an image is a bit painful. |

| | Re: Need Some Guidance Earl Yes, this is normal. When you first install Vista, you will see an initial increase in the amount of used disk space. While you are installing programs and configuring the system to your liking, there will be a lot of restore points being created, a lot of temp files being created, an index created for the new search features, and etc. Once your finished getting everything configured be sure to run the disk cleanup wizard and delete all of the temp files, all but the latest restore point, etc. This should dramatically decrease the amount of disk space being used. -- Ronnie Vernon Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User "Earl Addams" <ng_email_deleted@cox.net> wrote in message news:b9he33p7boenre7046d9ekoo2fhi1u0fdf@newsfe07.phx... > New machine with Vista Home Premium > > 250GB HD, 2GB RAM > > After the new machine was first turned on, C:\ was about 12GB used. > After removing several of the usual crappy programs one gets on a new > computer, I installed acrobat reader 8.0 and PowerPoint Viewer 2007 - > that's it.
