Vista - Vista and ITunes File Problems

I just installed Vista and now iTunes cannot find the music files. Windows
did not create a "Music" folder in my user folder when I installed Vista and
I cannot gain access to my old music folders because I don't have permission
on any of my administrative accounts.

Suggestions?

Did you upgrade your computer from previous version of Windows to Windows
Vista? Which license of Windows Vista did you purchase? Basically, for a
typical home user, he only has three major choices, i.e. Upgrade version,
Retail version and OEM version. If you bought a Windows Vista upgrade Disc, I
would recommend that you should do clean install rather than upgrade from
previous version of Windows. It is possible to do clean install with an
upgrade disc with a few tricks. See this link:

If you bought a retail version or OEM version, the steps are pretty
straightforward. I recommend you to do clean install because many problems
will go away. Of course, you have to get the latest version of drivers in
order to make your computer works correctly. I hope you have a backup of your
files. Clean install would require you to reformat a partition of your hard
drive. Reformatting will wipe out all your personal files.

If you had upgraded the existing XP, the permissions would have moved
forward into the new Vista install - still connected to the user accounts
that had access before.

If you install Vista "clean" or to a different partition, it knows nothing
about previous users or objects that were managed by the old installation.
Vista simply sees objects with existing permissions and it has to respect
those. If this was my system, I would straighten out the permissions first.
Then work at getting the music back into iTunes.

Did you try taking ownership of the old music folders yet? If the folders
are to be shared, you'll also want to edit permissions to allow those other
users access. Ownership and permission are extensive subjects so suggest
looking them up in Help and Support before changing anything.
