Backup to Internal Drive

I have Vista Ultimate and would like to backup all files to the second
internal drive. Vista's backup program does not recognize drive D as
approreat for backup. There are a few files on D some of which I can't
delete because system reports too large. I cannot format the drive but can
save files to it. How should I configure this drive to be able to use the
disk for backup? I have a Raid 0 confguration drive C.

"That does not compute!", to quote from a TV program that is probably older
than you. :>(

NO file is too large to delete.

And that also does not compute. If Vista can save files to that drive, it
certainly should be able to format it.

Both of these symptoms may relate to Vista's security features. Maybe it
thinks you don't have permission to delete files or to format volumes.

Please tell us more about your computer, especially your hard drive
configuration: How many physical drives, how they are interfaced (PATA,
SATA, USB or other?), how they are partitioned and formatted. What is the
make and model of your computer? (Some OEMs create hidden partitions
holding proprietary data; this may or may not be a factor in your problem.)
We may not need all this info, but overkill is better than letting us shoot
in the dark and offer inappropriate suggestions that send you down a blind
alley.

Are you familiar with Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc)? What does it say
about your second physical drive, where you want to backup those files? DM
is the tool that you should use to format volumes in Vista.

Re: Backup to Internal Drive

Just a wild guess...my Dell PC (with Vista pre-installed) came with a D
partition that I believe is labeled "Recovery" (I'm not at it right now or I
would check to be sure). It contains various system-related folders and
files used to restore the PC in case of a crash. Could you be looking at a
similar partition? If so, leave it alone...it's not meant to be messed with.
