| Guest | Stop automatically reorganizing by file name? I often rename multiple photos based off of printouts from thumbnails. My problem is Vista automatically resorts alphabetically as soon as I rename one file. This throws me off both because it moves the photo to a new location and I have to refind the place I was at. Is there any way to keep this from happening and resort alphabetically once I complete all my changes? Thanks |

In case you can't: In the alternative file manager XYplorer this behavior is optional. If you uncheck the option "Resort list immediately after rename" it will not happen. | Guest | Re: Stop automatically reorganizing by file name? Hello Jeff, You could sort files by a property other than the file name, such as "Date Taken". Renaming doesn't change that property, so the documents won't get reshuffled. To sort by a proprty, make it appear in the column list first. Right-click anywhere on an empty space in the folder, "Sort By", "More...". That brings up the list of all columns you can sort by. Scroll down to "Date Taken", check it, "OK". A new column header will appear above the file list, next to "Name", "Date Modified", etc. Click on it to sort by this property. Thanks, Ilia "Jeff" <Jeff@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:A260DC3B-0BA2-4400-AB29-F0DC3D4B53D0@microsoft.com... >I often rename multiple photos based off of printouts from thumbnails.
