| | Used Vista Disk clean up, 40GB gone in a minute !!! Used Vista Disk clean up, 40GB gone in a minute !!! Hi, I used vista disk-cleanup utility to clean up my D: (40GB of music games and stuff) , it showed in the files as: system error memory dump files (few MB's), temporary files (few KB's),recycle bin, setup log files, thumbnales (few MB's) etc.... but per user archived windows error reporting files {2 of them with 75GB each). now my HDD is 40 GB, and these two files are 75Gb each, i thought this must be some disk error, or some software error, neways... i clicked ok, and voila after 1 minute, 40 GB data is gone, WTF, where's my DATA, and how will i get it back !!! same happened with C: (windows vista drive) it is 13.5 GB, but it also shows 35GB each of those 2 files, and hibernation files (768 MB), so i clicked ok to clean up C:. and surprise surprise..... C: gone, iand i have to install vista again !!! well i have installed the vista again, but will some one tell me how to get the 40 GB data back of d:, and again after installing vista, and clicking disk-cleanup of c:, again it shows 35 GB of that data in 13.5GB HDD of c: should i do it again or not ??? |

I had a similar problem. I decided to try it last night with my C: drive, which is my XP partition. I ran the evaluation and it claimed to have found a couple of error dump files. At this point I told it to clean the disk and it deleted all the directories in my "Program Files" directory except for Adobe Acrobat, all the files in my Windows directory except for the "assembly" and "system32" directories, and it deleted all the files in the "Documents and Settings" directory, though it did leave 4 file folders -- one of the user accounts, "Application Data", "SecuROM", and "UserData". This partition is 76.3 GB and had about 20 GB free before, it now has over 62 GB free. To start Disk Cleanup, I selected the link on the left side of the "Performance Information and Tools" applet of the Control Panel. |
