| | Adobe PDF thumbnails show as icons I have a new laptop with Vista Home Premium. When I transferred files from my old XP SP2 laptop, initially the PDF's showed as a thumbnail of the file, not as an Adobe icon. Now, all of them show the Adobe icon and not the thumbanil. How do I fix this? I've spent hours looking for and trying different suggestions. I do have the "show icon, never thumbnail" option UNCHECKED; I'm letting Vista choose the best settings for the system; I've downloaded Reader 8; I've downloaded Reader 8.1, which was supposed to have a PDF previewer, etc., etc. If I've missed anything obvious, please let me know! All I want is to be able to see the thumbnail of the PDF file, like I did in XP SP2. I can't use Acrobat 6.0 anymore with Vista, even in XP SP2 compatibility mode; tried a trial of Acrobat 8 and that didn't fix the "problem." If there's a registry hack to fix this, please send it to me -- I'm not squeamish about making changes in the registry. Thanks for any help anyone can send my way! |

| | Re: Adobe PDF thumbnails show as icons Susan On my system I can see the thumbnail of the file. Here is how I have it set up. Acrobat Reader 8.1 installed. In Organize/Folder and Search Options/General Tab. I have the "Show preview and filters" selected. On the Command Bar/Views I have Medium Icons selected. (Small Icons, Details, or List do not show the thumbnail on PDF files). In Organize/Layout, I have the Preview Pane selected. This is a nice effect since it shows a thumbnail of each page in the PDF file, in the preview pane. Hope this helps. -- Ronnie Vernon Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User "SusanT" <SusanT@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:C42C61A8-8637-4774-8AC7-01F758CD75DB@microsoft.com... >I have a new laptop with Vista Home Premium. | | Re: Adobe PDF thumbnails show as icons Susan I did a bit of research on this issue and did not find anything relevent, except for the following. Several people have reported that they were having this problem in Vista with the adobe reader 8.0 installed and upgrading to AR 8.1 did not help. After trying many things, they finally found that if they completely uninstalled AR 8.0 before installing AR 8.1 that this fixed the problem. They reported that the issue was the IFilter component in AR 8.0. You might also want to take a look at this document. | | Re: Adobe PDF thumbnails show as icons Ronnie: Still no luck. I uninstalled Reader 8.1, rebooted, reinstalled it, rebooted and still get the Reader icon instead of a preview of the file. I do have an old(er) version of PhotoShop installed; perhaps uninstalling that would make a difference? Also, is there a way to attach a jpg of what I'm seeing to be sure we're thinking the same thing? Thanks!
