Did you attempt to move your User folders there?

No. Who, Where or What are 'User Folders'.

I started with a blank, formatted disk partition called D:
and to this drive I copied, from a dvd-rw several thousand
files and 12 Folders. Worked great. But in each of the 12
folders I need to create at least 50 sub folders within each
of the 12 main folders. The 12 main folders are not locked,
write protected or hidden. Each of the 12 original folders I
can rename at will. But when I try to create a sub-folder is
when I get the 'File or Folder does not exist, so I hit enter
and there is a folder 'Folder1, 2, etc and they cannot be renamed.
I read on the MS web site that a shared folder cannot be
renamed. True? If so, how do I stop folder sharing.
I know none of this makes much sense but it's making me
dislike vista even more.
I have Admin rights and tried to change the settings for
win explorer in the system, but everything had been greyed out
and no changes could be made there.
I think I will just put this new 'puter in the closet for a few months
until MS comes out with an SP1... Thank you for your thoughts...

I think that you need to take ownership of those folders and make sure
that you select the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects".

Check the permissions of the file or folder the file is saved in and
take ownership:

1. Right-click the file or folder, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Security tab.
3. Under Group or user names, click your name to see the permissions you
have.

To open a file, you need to have read permission. For more information
on permissions, see What are permissions?

To take ownership of a folder:

1. Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then
click Properties.
2. Click the Security tab, click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
3. Click Edit. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for
an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide
confirmation.
4. Click the name of the person you want to give ownership to.
5. If you want that person to be the owner of files and subfolders in
this folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check
box.
6. Click OK
